polyline end point

gabrielefx

Question

I'm probably missing a basic feature.

How to confirm the last point of a polyline without a double click?

I'm a Rhinoceros user, let's say I want to design the shape of a vase using a picture as background.

I draw every points and the last one with great precision, after having inserted the last point I want to exit from the polyline command...

I can't!!!

I have to insert another point with a double click!

Within Vectorworks I can't complete the polyline command with escape key or return. The return key add another point, the escape cancel all the points.

....this is crazy....

1.  If you draw a closed poly and click back on the starting vertex, the Polygon closes and you don't have to enter another point.

2. If you draw an open poly you can double click at the last point to end drawing the polygon.

3. If you draw an open poly and accidentally only single click on the last point you can hit the Enter key and it will end drawing the polygon.

And I think,

for closed Polygons, VW also works by "C" key to close the last segment,

as Autocad does (with C and ENTER)

You are NOT making another point.

That is pretty genius.

In Autocad you can click a thousand times on your last point

and each time it will just add another useless redundant

extra Vertex.

It also won't close or end, when at the end you click again

on your start point.

You are right. There is no command to end the tool apart from a repetitive click.

another option you could try if this is not working for you is to use the line tool to make individual connected lines and then compose them together to make a polygon.

As a caution and from experience it is a dangerous rabbit hole to go down to compare the way different apps achieve the same end. The development arc of each app is different and Vectorworks does many things differently to its competitors. I like the way that Vectorworks has been developed to use as few keyboard actions as possible.
