Cut/Fill Slab Object?

Hi please see attached file, I am trying to fill all the round holes in this slab. I want to work with the clip/add surface method, however when I cover those holes with circles and run "add surface", the circles disappear and the holes remain the same, any help? Thank you.

I've seen something similar to this behavior before.

 

Try this.  Double click the slab.  Choose to edit the Modifiers.  You will notice at the left side all the shapes you tried :-).  Just delete everything in the modifier space.  That's not always the solution, but in this case that's probably all you need.  Exit the edit space.

 

Now you should be able to add surface without any problems.
