DDD
Hi all, I know this is a basic function however it keeps failing on me, please see attached file. I simply want the rec to array follow the curve. Any settings I did wrong? Thank you. dup along path.vwx Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Would "Center Object on Path" work for your purposes ? Quote Link to comment
DDD
@zoomer Hi, no it won't. Sometimes the array will float to god knows where and it's really confusing. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Hmmh, I just tried it myself and it is working fine here (with tangent to path) All done on Layer Plane in 3D View with VW 2021 SP1. Edited October 19, 2020 by zoomer Quote Link to comment
DDD
@zoomer Mysterical, but thank you anyways. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Is this maybe a typical "restart VW and or OS" and it will work again problem ? If not could you post that test file ? Edited October 19, 2020 by zoomer Quote Link to comment
DDD
@zoomer Hi, I tried restart and no luck. The test file is attached in my post thread already. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Upps, yes, there it is. But ... it works for me on Mac. I am in Layer Plane. Quote Link to comment
DDD
@zoomer Hi, I would like to let the rectangle array kiss the curve by its width instead of the center. I can find another way to work this out, but thank you. Quote Link to comment
line-weight
I get the same results as @DDD. Vectorworks 2018 on mac. With a new file. I also get the same result as @zoomer if I tick "centre on path" and "tangent to path". It seems to me that it works as expected if "centre object on path" is ticked, but if this box is not ticked, then the results don't make any sense. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Like this ? I just had to reposition the Rectangle to the other end of the Path, top right, as I found no way to change the direction of that Arc, and rotate again to fit. Center Object on Path OFF, will keep desired Position to Path. Tangent to Path ON, will make Profile rotate along the Path Previously I used the Rectangle Profile from left below side, then the array would happen mirrored away from Path. 2 Quote Link to comment
DDD
@zoomer That works, thank you! Quote Link to comment
_c_
There is an expectation: you must place the elements in a counter-clock way relatively to the arc. If you don't, it won't work. This is one of the ancient VW pitfalls for new and old users alike. Like we knew or cared about counter-clock or not. Bug-filed, but unfortunately this is the way it will stay, likely forever. Extrude along path is also confusing in this kind of way - you have to guess what assumptions VW is making about things like how you place the path and profile relative to each other. Lots of stuff is not explained in the documentation I complained about this last year, but it was just ignored. It looks like nothing has been added to the VW2021 documentation. Quote Link to comment
