Tom Klaber
Excited to try out the quick search - but the F Key does not work as advertised. F key brings up same floating menu option as space bar and middle mouse button. Any ideas what is causing this? Link to comment
0 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Tamsin Slatter Posted September 16, 2020 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 16, 2020 Could it be that you have migrated an old workspace where the key is mapped to something else? The F key brings up the search for me, and the spacebar brings up the floating palettes. I don't have a mouse so I can't check the middle mouse button functionality. Link to comment

In the workspace editor on the Keys tab you can set the key for quick search and smart options display. It sounds like you somehow set the F key to smart options display. Please see the two attached images, thanks. 1 Link to comment
0 Tom Klaber
I did migrate a workspace - but the fact that F brings up the floating pallet is strange. I went to the quick search settings to set it to F - but there was no setting. Can this be set in the workspace editor? Link to comment
0 Tom Klaber
That is currently set correctly: But when I press F I get: (all four are there - but the screen shot only got two of them). Link to comment

Can you try something else? Please navigate to your user folder and open up your customized workspace in a text editor. If you search for LaunchGlobalSearchKey you should find an entry like 0x03. What is that entry? In our shipping workspaces it should appear like this: <TriggerOnDemandMenuKey>0xff</TriggerOnDemandMenuKey> <LaunchGlobalSearchKey>0x03</LaunchGlobalSearchKey> 0x03 is the key that quick search is assigned to, and 0x03 is the virtual keycode for "F". The entry above for on demand menu means that it is set to an empty key. Link to comment
0 Tom Klaber
@Ian Lane I can not find this: C:/Users/*me*/AppData/Local - does not have a VW2021 folder. C:/Program Files/ VW2021 /Workspaces - does not have my custom workspace in it. Where should I look for this file? Link to comment
0 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Tamsin Slatter Posted September 16, 2020 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted September 16, 2020 Tools > Options > Vectorworks Preferences and then click the User Folder tab. There is a button there that will take you straight to your user folder. I think it says Explore on a PC, but I'm a Mac girl... 1 Link to comment
0 Tom Klaber
Opened in WordPad - ran the search for that string - it does not pull anything up. Link to comment

That is likely the problem. If there is no entry for quick search (it is called global search in the workspace) then it won't use the correct key to open. Before doing this next step please save your workspace file to a separate folder, we would like to keep it for help examining the issue. Try editing the workspace, and set different keys for both On Demand Menu and Quick Search. Save the workspace, then edit it again and set the keys back to what you want them to be. I am trying to "kick" the workspace editor to add those entries that should be there. Thanks! 1 Link to comment

I sent you a direct message to obtain a copy of the workspace in question. Thanks again for your testing and feedback. 1 Link to comment
