^ What @Kevin McAllistersaid.

Pure Metals in real world have no Diffuse Light like Dielectrics,

where Light enters the Material and spreads in all directions.

Metals reflect light direct or it is completely absorbed.

So a Metal appearance just resembles its environment.

If there is just black around, your Metall will appear black.

For glossy Metals even if you shine a light on it, at an angle that

you will not see its direct reflection.

As long as the Metal isn't very rough, to reflect light in many

different directions, so there is a likeliness that at least some

reflected photons will reach your eye or camera.

But that's what makes Metals look metallic.

What is often unrealistic in Renderings is that in reality there

are rarely any sharp edges like in CAD geometries.

That is a problem for Metals and they look flat and boring.

In reality all edges are more or less filled or chamfered.

This will bring nice highlights and halos around edges.

Visualization Apps often have a Shader Option to fake such

rounded edges without much need of render time or 3D artists

usually bevel or SubD everything.
