Hidden lines

It sounds like you're trying to see more lines, not reduce them, so in that scenario you'd want to lower the smoothing angle.

However, in your case there aren't actually any edges where you've indicated because your profile has curved edges rather than faceted. There are no "edges" to display because the geometry is all tangential. You'd have to edit your profile in this case to get lines to appear where you've indicated, just like in your first screenshot.

If you need it to be both curved AND show the faceted edges, you'll have to do some clever editing of the profile polyline by adding a tiny jog in the line wherever you want an edge to appear.

I hoped to find a simple solution with Lower hidden line angle.. and I was afraid that this was the only solution...

The smoothing angle is designed to show edges that are created by corner points and are less than the smoothing angle. Think of a circle being simulated by a polygon. If you create a 36 sided polygon you would have an angle at each vertex of 10°. If you created a 18 sided polygon you would have an angle of 20°. If you set the smoothing angle to 15°, the 18 sided polygon would show as faceted while the 36 sided would not show the edges.

Take a look at these simulations of your situation. I took the same polygon, changed some of the vertices to bezier, cubic, and arc and rendered at different smoothing angles. I did not see any difference at angles less than 1°.  Notice that none of the "curve" vertices ever show a line.
