@Tim Norman-Prahm I've never seen that but I alway export (from a SLVP) vs save. Does that happen when you export as well?

Note to all, Vectorworks 2021 now works just fine on my Mac (late 2013) running Big Sur.  I removed my anti virus and uninstalled end re-installed VW 2021 now every thing works.  I reinstalled my anti-virus and every thing still works.

yeah VW 2019 with Big Sur is notttt happening very well, 

I get huge delay / lagging and the screen not updating when zooming in, changing layer views, class views, flipping between sheets etc.

Basically completely un-usable, 

 

are there any planned fixes to 2019 VW and older versions planned? as we have a lot of projects in our practice that are started in previous versions of VW which would take too long to update all to latest versions....

I am not sure what is a real GPU issue and what is just coming from

newest MMB Screen Icon option, which needs an articulately Pan or

Rotate, before temporary flyover or pan starts working.

 

And pre Big Sur I found MMB mouse View Navigation was sluggish while

navigation by 3DConnexion devices was still smooth, while after Big Sur or

by M1 Mini, it reversed, or changed depending on which App I use.

I have also experienced VectorWorks 2020 crashing when I save using "Command S" or save from pull down menu. However when I reopen it the changes are saved. it doesn't crash when I "save as". It's a pain but a good work around.

Hello, so what is the latest official information on Vectorworks on Apple M1?

 

This status from 12/10/20 is the only info available?

 

"Vision 2020 and 2021 versions: Testing finds that versions will not run in Rosetta 2 emulation. At the time of this writing, we recommend that users not update yet and check with us for status about the new M1 processors."

the news is - they’re still on the fence about recommending it...as it’s early days (6 month on..!!)

Seems to me that 6 months of testing is a LOT. And all this silence about it. 

 

I may be needing a hardware upgrade soon and would not like to buy an Intel Mac and receive a few weeks later the news that VW 2021 has been updated for M1.

To clarify: We are currently supporting the M1's with Vectorworks under Rosetta 2 emulation for Entry level profiles based on our system requirements. And we are working towards full support in Vectorworks 2022. 

 

Vision: Vision works on the M1 under Rosetta but still not recommending it because of the integrated graphics card in the M1's. We will be providing more information as it becomes available.

For me it looks like that weak M1 Mini can handle large projects (beside CPU Rendering),

loading files, 3D Views and Editing, nearly equally to the Ryzen 3950X 64 GB RX6800 PC.

And it is even faster for any larger single core calculations like imports or geometry

cleanup/conversion.

And this is still for non optimized 3D packages under Rosetta penalty.

I'm trying to migrate my V.2017 Landmark license from an old iMAC to a new iMAC (M1) running Big Sur.  The installer from a fresh download doesn't engage at all.  Any advice or information would be appreciated.

VW2017 is not compatible with Big Sur. 

 

You are going to have to upgrade to VW2021 for M1 compatibility.

OK, thanks.  Unfortunately, as a recently retired engineer, I only need V.2017 to access the hundreds of files in my system.  I don't have a current need and can't afford to upgrade.  Just trying to maintain legacy access to my work history.  Progress? not for me I guess.

You could rent VWs 2021 for a month and do the updating you need. I am currently using an M1 and the rented 2021 and will decide in the near future if I buy it. I prob will, since 2021 works very nicely, only minor glitches.

If it is only for a month you could also load a trial version .....

 

But for the long term with your new M1 Mac,

you will either need VW 2020 or upwards with Big Sur,

(An older macOS VM, AFAIK will also not run via Parallels on M1,

as it supports only ARM OSs)

or maybe a cheap Windows PC to run VW 2017 natively,

or maybe purchase a used iMac or Mac Pro 2013 ?
