Todd
Hello, Is it possible to import SketchUp files to VW and convert them to Vectorworks files, and vice-versa? Thank you. Quote Link to comment
rDesign
Yes, with Vw2020 you can Import SKP files (versions 4 through 2019). But to export from Vw back to SketchUp -- you'll need to Export to 3DS format, as Vw cannot export directly to SKP format. Then in Sketchup you'll need to Import the 3DS file. 2 Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
@rDesign is correct that you can import and export and get the data moved between the different file formats, but I am reading between the lines of your post and it appears you are interested in a workflow where you use both VW and Sketchup on the same project. My advice is don't even try. While you can get the geometry go move between the files, the objects don't always translate into "native" objects in the other file. Doors in a Sketchup file will not be converted to a VW Door Plug-in Object. So you will end up using both applications at their most basic level without out most of the features that make them worth using. If you get a file from Sketchup it is a very reasonable starting point to develop a VW model and drawing set. If you have a final VW model and want to send it to Sketchup so they can do a walkthrough that is reasonable. To export a VW file to SU, have someone use SU to modify the file and then bring it back into VW with the changes is not going to work to your satisfaction. $0.02 4 Quote Link to comment
