MPJDesign
When I am only drafting in 2-D, somehow, in my keystrokes, while drawing - I somehow will get myself into the 3-D Top view. Is there a way to lock myself into the Top/Pan View, so there's no way to inadvertantly bump myself out of my desired plane view? Quote Link to comment
propstuff
Go to the Workspace editor and take the Ctrl-5 shortcut out there. cheers Quote Link to comment
ionw
My guess is that you (logically) use the numeric keypad for entry. If you hit the numeric keypad while not in an entry field it will change the 3D view. I've not found a way to lock this out, as it doesn't seem to be part of the workspace. I haven't looked very hard because I use it often, but I have our production people who would like to do the same as you. I always found that people that accidentally ended up in a 3d view were more likely to get there via the numeric keypad than any other shortcut. HTH, ion Quote Link to comment

Travis
So. . .the keystroke that brings you back to Top/Plan is Control-5 (command-5 on Mac), as Nicholas points out. Maybe just train yourself to correct the error by returning to the proper view. Good luck, Quote Link to comment
MPJDesign
Thanks for the tips...I guess there is no way to lock myself into the Top/Plan view.. maybe after i save I'll just Control 5... There's no way I can avoid the numeric keypad, I gotta use it. Quote Link to comment
mike m oz
THe zero key on the numeric keypad will take you back to Top/Plan View. Quote Link to comment
PJL
It would be useful if Vectorworks had the option for an on-screen icon indicating which view mode you are working in. Regards, Peter Lee, Wales UK Quote Link to comment
Jonathan Pickup
VectorWorks already has this. If you set a snap grid of 100mm (4?0) and a reference grid of say, 1000mm (3ft.) then when you are in Top/Plan mode you should see the grid as a blue grid. If you change to a 3D view then the grid changes to a smaller black grid, and in isometric you can see the x and y grids as heavy lines... that helps you to see if you are in Top/Plan and if not, you can make out which view you are looking at by the X/Y indicators. PJL
I tend to draw not using the grid feature.... Regards Peter Lee, Wales UK Quote Link to comment
