Gary C
I've seen several designs that were created with VW that show a completed building rendered with the outside walls faded so you can see thru them but you can still see the components of the faded walls. How is this done????? Quote Link to comment
alanmac
Probably done with Photoshop. I know I've done similiar. Rendering the front/outside and back/inside objects, then bring into Photoshop and using layer, selections etc. faded parts of the concept using layer or selection transparency to get this effect. I think you could achieve the same using the much cheaper Photoshop Elements if you don't own Photoshop and its too expensive. Alan Quote Link to comment
propstuff
Garry Simply apply the transparency shader to the texture you have on the walls. Plain Transparency about 70%. N. Quote Link to comment
MKingsley
Or can't you set that layer to Gray? Whatever component you don't want grayed would go in a "parallel" (same z value) visible layer. Quote Link to comment
alanmac
Ah, sorry didn't notice your Renderworks tag in the signature. Don't use it myself, so it sounds like Nicholas is on target here. Dare I say it, a "Prop"er answer. Alan Quote Link to comment
G_Hannigan
Gary, If you have the VW 12 Upgrade Companion CD, there is an animation showing how to do this using class over rides in a viewport (Introduction to Viewports section). Select a viewport, click classes (opens Viewport Class Properties), select the class you want to apply the over ride to, then edit, make your material changes. Fill = None will give a transparency result. Thes changes only affect how the class is rendered in this viewport, it doesn't change the default setting. The over ride is shown with a checkmark next to the class in the Viewport Class Properties window. George Quote Link to comment
Robert Anderson
In VectorWorks Architect, you can use the "Stack Layers" option in 3D with rendering set to OpenGL and "gray other layers" enabled to get effects like this. Quote Link to comment
mdarch
what or where is the "Stack Layers" option? Quote Link to comment
CipesDesign
Stack Layers is in the VIEW menu (in the architect workspace). It is the new ability to view multiple layers simultaneously AND in proper height (or "z") relationship to each other. Quote Link to comment
mdarch
Not in mine - VW 11.5. Is it new in 12, or am i missing something. Can't find it using the workspace editor either Quote Link to comment
mdarch
Ooops, I've since had another look at the "New in 12" file and there it is. Quote Link to comment
