Autosave switching off by itself

Anyone noticed the Autosave in VW switching off by itself.  VW has just crashed again (second time today), but this time I have just lost 5 hours of work.  I know the autosave was on this morning as there are autosaves from this morning's work, but nothing for the last 5 HOURS. Does VW have a hidden keystroke that switchers Autosave off - If there is it should be deleted.

 

I am getting so sick and tired of the instability of Vectorworks and the constant crashing of the software.  You know you have the users tied down so much that we cannot afford to move elsewhere. Businesses across the world just now are struggling for basic survival.

I can't address the apparent Autosave problem but noticed your signature says you are using VW 2015 on OS10.11.2. Per the following link VW2105 tops out with OS10.10. Not sure if it is related to your problem but perhaps worth while looking onto?

@Kevin C I have experienced same switch off of the AutoSave.  But, I can't track the cause, and think it is not v2020 specific.

 

Some possible culprits:

Updates or upgrades in other software, including the OS?

A vwx crash/relaunch fails to renew the pref?

Crash in other software while vwx is open?

 

My best guess for the crashes is that one or other app will crash while running multiple heavy files, then maybe AutoSave clicks off. Recent instance is QGIS and vwx running, plus Zoom with recording. Might be too much for my system, causing one app or another to freeze or crash when OS can't keep up? Or maybe the AutoSave disabled itself earlier, and I didn't notice.

 

I'm trying to remember to check my AutoSave pref more often.

No answer here, just some affirmation and sympathy.

In Catalina, Apple has gotten much more protective about what applications can save where. Could it be that Mac OS does not like where you are saving occasionally?

I have had this problem as well. Fortunately, it switches from backup to overwrite the original file, so mostly not much is lost (no more than 10 minutes). My guess it's the culprit no. 3 that @Benson Shaw mentioned:

Has there been a fix to this?  It's happening to me as well and very very frustrating.

Intermittently to me as well. Hasn't happened since I updated to SP 5 (so far…)

My favorite new feature of VW. Nothing like crashing at 5:15 PM and losing 2 hours of work.

@jason schneider—o yah hear you. VWX 2024 sp 5 earlier this afternoon crashed so hard it restarted the M1 MBP

This time it switched itself to "overwrite original file."  Not as bad as switching itself off, but still doing whatever it feels like.

I've got 4 hours into VW2025 and this bug is still present.
