Mitchell (the other one)
Haven't had this issue before. Creating some new door symbols with door styles. Flipping this bypass door: - Flip 1 - works correctly, door leafs flip side to side, - Flip 2 - door symbol goes end to end but the door shifts down, - Flip 3 - works correctly, door leafs flip side to side, - Flip 4 - door symbol goes end to end but the door shifts up and does not return to the original position. I've looked at the symbol to see if there is a piece off to one end but didn't see anything. Any suggestions? Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
Can you post a simple file with a wall and the symbol placed in the wall so we can take a look? Quote Link to comment
Mitchell (the other one)
Certainly, simple file attached. Flipping doors.vwx Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
It is kind of what I expected. When you edit the symbol, the Insertion Point is the 0,0 point in the local coordinate system. For your door this point does not match with the physical center of the symbol. It is shifted about 5" You need to edit the symbol and move both the Top view and the 3D view so that the center of the symbol matches with the local 0,0 point. Or move the insertion point so that you insert that symbol from a corner instead. Since the symbol is not symmetric around the insertion point, when you flip the symbol, the bounding box of the symbol shifts position. As a test I just grouped the Top view objects and then used the OIP to set the center of the group to 0,0. Flip seems fine after that. Quote Link to comment
Mitchell (the other one)
Thank you - I was thinking along similar lines but late in the evening it just wasn't working for me. "As a test I just grouped the Top view objects and then used the OIP to set the center of the group to 0,0. " Could you walk me through the steps in using the OIP to set the centre - I haven't used this technique before. Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
Edit the Symbol. This is the Top/Plan (2D) view. You can see that the 0,0 point is not at the center of the symbol. Select everything. Since the symbol only contains a single door object you don't have to group. It if was multiple objects that you wanted to keep in the same relative positions, you would Group them together. Set the Show Other setting in the Component Edit data bar to 3D. You will now see both the Top/Plan and the Top view of the 3D portion of the door at the same time. Note that in the X field in the OIP there is a value of 5". That is how much the insertion point is offset from 0,0. Click into the X field and type 0 (zero). The door will shift so the insertion point is at 0,0,0. Exit the symbol and try flipping. It should flip symmetrically around the insertion point. Quote Link to comment
Mitchell (the other one)
Ahah, Step 1, if you are not using Rulers, turn them on, then you will be able to see where 0,0 is. Now it makes sense - thank you. Quote Link to comment
