Graphics Card Options

Recommended Posts

Hi! I'm looking for advice on a new hardware purchase. I'm getting a new iMac and there are two graphics card options. Does anyone know if I will see a significantly better performance with option 2 over option 1 (below)? Specifically for rendering time and OpenGL in Vectorworks 2020 Architect, we do a lot of detailed interior renders with lighting, people and props.

1) Radeon Pro 580X with 8GB of GDDR5 memory

2) Radeon Pro Vega 48 with 8GB of HBM2 memory

From Tests the Vega48 option is much faster in 3D Views or GPU Renderings.

If you are interested in RW Rendering with C4D Engine, a better GPU will not help,

C4D Renderer works by using CPU only. So the more cores and faster GHz the faster.

Faster GPU will help in VW OpenGL Views and the faster HBM2 memory should accelerate

initial model loading into VRAM.

As GPUs aren't upgradeable I would go with the best GPU option for Macbook/iMac/iMac Pro
