Diffused Front for Videowall

Recommended Posts

I want to add a diffused front panel in front of a video wall so the wall image shows thru but is slightly softened. or is there a way of diffusing the video image apart from manipulation of the original in something like photoshop?

Thanks in advance.

you could put something in front with a transparency shader on and blurriness added.  But it will be at the expense of some rendering time.  Often times I would do this in "post" by just blurring the desired area in photoshop after rendering.

I’VE ADDED ‘FROSTED PLEXI’ PANELS IN FROM OF A VIDEO WALL OBJECT IN VECTORWORKS. IT DOES ADD render time, but worth it for the look. Class the objects for testing and turning on and off as needed.

sorry about the shouting there.

Any chance of a screenshot?

I'll see if I can dig up a render.

Personally, I would blur the image BEFORE making it a texture so that's just baked in to the object before you render. Not sure if this works for your particular situation, but if so, it saves you from the render time mentioned above for blurriness, plus you don't have to do anything in "post."

All the above suggestions will work and are spot on. A transparency in front of your LED display will work but I find that I spend quite a bit of time making it look as it should, especially if I am adding a touch of reflection to the plastic. If you don’t need that level of detail, it would be much quicker to blur the image in advance and you can add some reflection to the glow as well.
