Dimension not following if snapped to CENTER

The center edge points set by the "Eight Selection Handles" preference are not really points on the object. They are only for visual reference. I know you can grab them and drag/stretch objects from them, but the Constraints that are used to make Associative Dimensions can't see them.

 

Depending on what you object types are you might be able to modify your objects to create a Handle at that point (Replace a rectangle with a 5 point polygon with the beginning and end points at the center of an edge.) Or add a locus point and Group the object and locus to give you a Handle to associate the dimension with.
