Revit families to Vectorworks

There is a Revit Import option in VW.
I think *.RFA works too, at least when renaming to RVT (?)

Some Family Members get converted to parametrical VW PIOs.

Walls, Windows, Doors, ...

But while objects keep their current shape, not all parameters

are kept "parametric". Like a Revit Door will look like the Door

before in VW too, the whole original Door Object is included as

a Symbol only inside the VW Door PIO.

So editing Door Parameters in the PIO will not have any effect

and no change for the Door itself. VW will not even translate the

Door's basic dimensions and set the VW Doors properties

accordingly.

So,

a) Yes, you can bring Revit stuff into VW

b) No, there won't come over much Revit parameters or

ACAD Dynamic Block parametrics

c) imported geometry may be pretty crappy meshes or lose polygons

d) for me even dashed Lines were exploded to individual Objects

Therefore much cleanup work to expect.

But give Revit Import a try.

Better than nothing, especially if a RVT file is all you get from your client.

I wouldn't expect from the current Import option to be useful to convert

a whole office standard of RFA libraries to get VW PIO Libraries though,

like when switching from Revit to VW.

We are considering the option of using vectorworks. But instigators usually want to see certain windows or doors. (e.g. window and door family). These families are easy to find for Autodesk Revit. Are there large libraries of doors, windows and other elements for vectorworks? Which ones do you use from your experience?
