ama.ny
Hi- My question involves placing a workgroup reference once it is referenced into a file. Can one move a workgroup reference? I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Andrew Bell@NV Posted November 17, 2005 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted November 17, 2005 What do you mean by moving it? A WGR bring a copy of a layer in from another file, so it effectively adds a layer to your document. Layers don't have positions per se, they are independent spaces. If you bring in a layer and want to view it is a specific position relative to another layer (And their origins aren't the same), you'll need to create a layer link in that other layer. You can then move that layer link around after unlocking it. A layer link acts like a symbol, except that the objects inside the "symbol" are in the linked layer. Quote Link to comment
David Bertrand
Another way is to create a new layer, like a sheet layer. Then make the workgroup reference's objects visible in a viewport. The viewport can be then moved around in the sheet layer, and the reference doesn't have to be unlocked. Quote Link to comment
SteveK
When a drawing is workgroup referenced, is the source file locked. When I reference a floor plan into another drawing, the source file cannot be opened until the target file is closed. Quote Link to comment
David Bertrand
When a drawing is workgroup referenced, is the source file locked. It doesn't seem to be on mine; I can open the referenced drawing even while the target drawing is open. I can even change the referenced drawing and then update it in the target file. Everything is on my computer, not a server. Quote Link to comment
Travis
stevek, Which version are you running? Quote Link to comment
SteveK
Thanks for the replies. I have solved the problem. It seems that we have some people here that like to open drawings just to look at them without informing anyone that they have the drawings open. Maybe a wish list item would be the ability to open a drawing read only. Quote Link to comment
