Extrude along path

Recommended Posts

Hello! Is there a way to extrude along path on an exterior corner? I would like to wrap my paneling around this column in the corner of a room. I was able to do this when I hand-built up rectangles, but in a more complex moulding that has ogees etc I don't know how to do this. I've included screenshots.

AFAIK in exactly the same way.

You draw a (complex) open or closed 2D Polygon to your liking and use it as path.

(Or you extract a Face from a given 3D object)

You have to care a bit that the result does not self intersect

in tight corners.

Also there are the typical problems on how to position the

profile in a controllable according to path,

which is often discussed in various threads here.

Draw the path as a simple rectangle on one plane but full width

Select path & profile

Extrude along path

Select the EAP>Right Click>Edit path

In Top/Plan View Split the Nurbs curve in half, rotate one half 90° make sure the ends meet exactly

Select both Nurbs curves

Modify>Compose

Exit Path

Since I haven't done one like this before, thought I would give it a go.

I drew it with a 3D polygon, (layer plane set to automatic), place the moulding on the path. (I personally like to keep Fix Profile check, as it would keep the extrude in the position I wanted it),

Are you getting strange result, or it is giving you an error message and didnt extrude anything ?

It takes trial and error for me to set the correct location of the profile, I don't understand the logic of that.

It is not really that handy in VW.

AFAIK

there are only two options.

1.

To activate to fix the Profiles location,

which means you have to position it correctly from start.

(So to arrange everything in 3D from the beginning by 3D Rotations)

or

2.

To do just Profile on 2D Layer Plane,

and go into EAP edit mode and adjust the Profile position afterwards.

(Move all from the desired location to the coordinate origin inside the

EAP editor)
