MilanSipekDesign
Hi VW friends! This is maybe a rookie question... I was watching a VW tutorial online (The Power of 3D Modeling with Vectorworks Software) And noticed that the instructor was able to rotate around the 3D object while selecting edges with the fillet tool! I have been using VW for quite a while and never realized I could do that! I looked through the list of keyboard shortcuts but haven't been able to find anything that appeared to do this... Pls enlighten me, because it's literally been years of filleting only one or two edges at a time! Thanks! ( Video tutorial link pasted below... the part I'm referring to is at 6:30) Quote Link to comment
markdd
I think the instructor is using a Space Navigator 3D mouse. They're terrific. You can use the orbit tool while a tool is active by pressing ctrl + middle mouse button. It's a very useful shortcut, although I find the middle mouse button a little cumbersome so have mapped that to another button on the mouse. 1 Quote Link to comment
MilanSipekDesign
Thank you @markdd ! I should probably get myself a more functional mouse... this apple magic mouse looks good but is not all that functional... Space Navigator 3D mouse has been added to my birthday wishlist! Thanks! markdd
I use a Logitech MX Master. There are loads of threads here that discuss this. I ditched the magic mouse ages ago and have not missed it for a second. 1 Quote Link to comment

I even bought a 3DConnexion CADMouse because of that. As it has a real middle mouse button beside a scroll wheel. Most times I need the typical 2 side buttons of a mouse additional for CAD App anyway. Like X=Selection + Fit View in the VW case. 1 hour ago, markdd said: so have mapped that to another button on the mouse. At first when I read I thought we could finally map temporary orbit to other custom keys now .... (like MMB+SHIFT) Quote Link to comment
Hans-Olav
@MilanSipekDesign Are you aware of Boomerang mode, Press the space bar to pause the action and adjust the view 1 Quote Link to comment
MilanSipekDesign
@Hans-Olav Yes I use boomerang Mode... but it activates the pan tool (maybe I could edit that in preferences?) which is usually not enough to see all the edges I would want to select. I also thought about using x-ray mode but in some cases the models are a little too complex to be able to find the right line.... Quote Link to comment
Hans-Olav
@MilanSipekDesign while in boomerang tool you can choose another tool to rotate the view and still come back to your previous tool. 2 Quote Link to comment
