Section viewport not working - red cross x in box

Question

I'm trying to create a section viewport on a really simple model of a house

there's nothing unusual about it!

but when i create section viewport (to a new or existing sheet layer) i just get a tiny box with a red X cross in it.

I've tried making sure the layers and classes are on and messed around with a few settings but nothing seems to work

It looks like an Empty Viewport. Have you clicked the Layers and Classes buttons in the OIP (Object Info Palette) to make sure the layers and classes are set to visible there as well as in the Navigation palette?

I'm having the same problem, every Classes and Layers are on. And I didn't change the settings, and it was working before.

Maybe your classes are off or your current visible design layer is empty and you somehow checked the “Use current document layer/class visibility settings” box in the class or layer settings dialogues?

Select the viewport. Click the Layers... button and make sure the layers you want to see are set to visible in the viewport.

Click the Classes... button and make sure the classes you want to see are set to visible in the viewport.

Right Click on the viewport and choose Edit Crop. Select All and Delete any Crop Object that exists. It is possible that you have the viewport cropped to an area of the drawing that has no objects.

Make sure the Viewport is set to a class that is visible in the Navigation Palette.
