Socket definition device builder

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just starting to get into ConnectCad.  Been a user of VWX for years.

Does anyone know a way of increasing the number of socket definitions in the device builder?  I could just build a custom device, but I would like to share them with the community if possible.

If I spend the time to create a device with more than 12 types of sockets, I'd like to spare someone the time to do it over again.

Any thoughts?

Hello @James Chipman,

- The maximum number of socket signals created from the Device Builder is 12. If you want to create more socket signals you will have to manually insert the sockets in the existing device and then, if you want to reuse it or share it with others, save the device as symbol and share this symbol.

If you think that 12 is not enough for Socket Signals in the Device Builder, could you create a VE about that or a post in the wishlist thread?

Hi @James Chipman

From the first time I wrote Device Builder I knew that there would always be some device that would exceed its capabilities. But with ConnectCAD there is always a "get out of jail" card. You can add the extra sockets and save the device as a symbol. That way you never have to create it again. You can easily share symbols with your colleagues and access symbols from other documents using the Resource Manager.

Ultimately we would have to make the socket groups into a scrolling list to allow arbitrary numbers of rows - but would it be easier to use? That's the question.
