Device room information

I cannot change the room information for a device. Also the devices dows not take the information from a room, when I draw a room around it.

The workflow is like this:

 

- use Update Rack Elevation to create a Rack Elevation layer (if you don't have one) and to create Equipment Item objects for each unique Device.

- use the Layout Room tool to create a Room object and give the room a name

- drag the Equipment Item into the Room and the schematic layer Device updates automatically

 

This is faster to do than to describe in fact.

 

Just to add some extra clarification. Schematic drawings are about connectivity. Physical locations of equipment in room, racks and rack frames are a separate workflow. The reason is that often the clearest way to show signal flow isn't the clearest way to show locations and vice-versa.

Hi @Conrad Preen,

I understand the workflow above - could you also explain what the NAME property is about in the Layout Room object. How does it differ from ID. Obviously ID is used to link devices to the room via the Equipment Item objects, but I couldn't find a purpose for the name property.

That is the Vectorworks object name. You can use this as part of Criteria for selections and reports. ConnectCAD doesn't make any use of this any more.
