I have tried making a hexagon pattern and I think I have followed the instructions to the letter however when I run the wrapper I get the seemingly never ending spinning wheel.

Just my 2 cents worth but if these are just for concepts (and you're not doing this type much) it's not worth going to deep; better to go as far as practical in vw, make a render\image and mask and kludge something together in 'shop or gimp. 

 

And even if you are going as far as details, even then I've found it's not always worthwhile detailing too far as the contractor will have approaches and ideas that are unknown unknowns to us. For instance going to heaps of trouble to work out waste etc when the tiler may just buy larger tiles are of type and cut them down, in the end using a lot less material and time than you can work out detailing. That's been my experience anyway.

We found the issue regarding the hexagonal tiles and some others. The fix will be included in the next update (in about three or four weeks).
