Bruce Kieffer
Our user group is modeling a cupcake this year for our annual solid modeling challenge. I'm trying to imagine ways to model the frosting, but I'm stumped. Please offer some suggestions of ways for me to do this. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
Christiaan
Bake a cupcake, 3D scan it and use point cloud 😉 Edited January 10, 2020 by Christiaan Quote Link to comment

Vectorworks, Inc Employee Popular Post Stephan Moenninghoff Posted January 10, 2020 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Popular Post Share Posted January 10, 2020 Frosting is definitely doable with the Deform Tool. Glazing should be, too. Glazing.mp4 3 2 Quote Link to comment

Ingredients for a single cupcake shouldn't be excessive. And IIRC Vectorworks now has photogrammetric visual scanning. I haven't tried it but it's not a bad idea! Quote Link to comment

Bruce Kieffer
Stephan, How did you draw the star shape? Quote Link to comment

Two equiangular triangles, one flipped then centred, then add surface does the trick, although I see Stephan's are not equiangular. Too make Stephan's star you could draw a square, convert to polygon, squeeze it into a diamond and then duplicate twice, rotating it 120º each time, then add surface. Bruce Kieffer
I was hoping there was a star tool! Quote Link to comment
Christiaan
My girlfriend would sympathise. English not being her first language (although she speaks five) she likes to adorn it with her own words; so sometimes she asks me where the star key is. It took me a while to work out she was after a Phillips screwdriver. 😆 Edited January 25, 2020 by Christiaan Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
I did this with triangles and a polygon, and then added surface. Quote Link to comment
Christiaan
That should do the trick. If you want Stephan's particular shape you would do this. Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
Thanks, I see how it's done, but the exact shape is not necessary. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Stephan Moenninghoff Posted January 25, 2020 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted January 25, 2020 Guys, that's what Marionette is here for. It's not rocket science (otherwise I wouldn't be able to do it). Come to my class at the Design Summit to learn how to do this kind of stuff in no time (shameless plug) :-) Star.mp4 Star.vwx 1 Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Stephan Moenninghoff Posted January 25, 2020 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted January 25, 2020 The slider should output integers. It's broken (but works). I'll file a bug. Quote Link to comment

Bruce Kieffer
Stephan, Wow, that is a sweet tool! I assume I can save it in a library and reuse it. Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
I'm creating the star another way that seems fairly simple and controllable. I drew a 2" dia. circle and a 9/16" rad. six-sided polygon centered in the circle. Then I drew one triangle and did a duplicate array of 5 on the circle center. Quote Link to comment
Bruce Kieffer
Thanks to all for your help. We had our meeting last night. There were many interesting "cupcakes." I learned a lot, and I hope others did too. One of our members took my Vectorworks file and used it to 3D print this! It is real. 1 Quote Link to comment
