How do you draw Cable in 3d?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone, I'm fairly new to Vectorworks and working on a plot for an upcoming show in Spotlight. I'm trying to add in cable to this project and am having difficulty getting my cable runs in 3D. I have a downstage truss flown with a trim of 25' and my distro is 40' upstage on the floor. We have a cable pick directly above the distro. I see where you can add a vertical dist in the Part 1: section, but I wanted to see a visual representation as well. Is there a way to do this?

Hi Omar

Currently the cable tools are designed to be used only in a 2D top/plan view and the cables objects generated are simple 2D polylines.

The easiest way to show the cables in 3D is to be to use the 3D polygon tool from the 3D modeling tool set, to draw the cable or cables.

make sure to assign them to a separate class from the default cable tool classes to make it easier to control the cable visibility

I also tend to give them a thicker line weight and color them by cable type or purpose

here's an example image from a demo file
