One object on different layers?

Recommended Posts

I would say the solution here is to use a symbol, which essentially acts as one object but can appear on multiple layers. Editing the symbol updates it everywhere. I use this all the time.

Good idea Kevin. Is there a way to "lock" a location to a symbol? So if I move it on one layer it moves on the other layers too.

If you make the origin of the symbol the same as the origin on a layer, then you could edit the symbol and move the objects within the symbol and they would change for every instance of the symbol (so move on all the layers). It would feel a bit weird, but it would work.

Create a Layer with only your object.

Create a Design Layer Viewport showing only that Layer

Assign a useful class to control visibility of the DLVP

Place, Duplicate, Move, Rotate and Lock the DLVP on any other DL
