unearthed
I'm trying to use Modify > Convert > Replace with symbol (I have about 70 circles I want to changes to a symbol) vw gives me the odd error [ This tool belongs top module xxx, which is not installed on this computer ] I have Landmark 2012, working in 2D and symbol is just a simple object and I have both records settings unticked. Pat Stanford
Replace is designed to replace a symbol with a different Symbol. There was a thread that generated a bunch of scripts about a decade ago the can be used to replace circles with symbols. Remember these are 10 years old. Test carefully before using on critical data and backup first. 1 Quote Link to comment
unearthed
Thank you Pat!, that worked really well, even after so long in 'storage'. Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
Another of @Pat Stanford 's great scripts! It's nice that an old script can be remembered, located and that it functions as it should! And great that it could solve a problem for @unearthed . 10 hours ago, unearthed said: Modify > Convert > Replace with symbol . . . [ This tool belongs top module xxx, which is not installed on this computer ] This command actually does function to replace selection of any (almost?) type of object(s) with an instance of symbol at center of each selected object. At least in newer versions. I never saw that error message before. Maybe earlier versions of the command needed special settings or were not available in Landmark module? or need some workspace customization. Might be worth testing in a new blank file. Create a symbol and several objects. Select the objects and invoke the Modify>Convert>Replace with symbol command. Error might be related to some condition in the project file rather than the command. -B 1 Quote Link to comment
virusdesign
Hi Pat, if there was a command for this feature in the next releases instead of a script it would be very useful. Thanks Quote Link to comment
Pat Stanford
Post it in the Wishlist forum. I have less than zero impact on what gets added to VW. 2 Quote Link to comment
Benson Shaw
Isn’t the command working as requested? It replaces any selected object(s), not just symbols, with the chosen symbol. -B Quote Link to comment
unearthed
No it isn't working, haven't time to play with it now but will work thru your ideas above later in week, see if it is somehow a project problem, rather than something with vw. But Pat;s script works perfectly. Quote Link to comment

Its more robust in newer versions but the poster is still using Vectorworks 2012. Kevin 2 Quote Link to comment
