3D EXPORTING PROBLEMS PLEASE HELP ME!!

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm exporting from vectorworks 10.5.0 to C4D and have been work with this method for a while, but my main draw back is curved objects. All my prefs in Vectorworks 3D and 2D are set to very high, but when the model is export to C4D all curved surfaces are quite octagonal. is there any settings i'm missing.

By the way, I just check a recent export and all curved / circular objects have 22side to make up the shape.

Any clues?

Hi Adam

Try joining this forum, if not a member already. Whilst some use CD4 here, there are a lot of CD4 users with VW on this site.

It's a tech question that falls more in the responsibility of Maxon than Nemetschek, so an alternative would be to contact their Tech support.

Good luck

Adam,

While I don't use C4D, I have had good results in other rendering applications by saving as IGS or STL. If C4D cannot import these formats, try going through another CAD application to translate the IGS or STL to a format C4D can read.

The IGS (or IGES) format will export your nurbs surfaces and can then be tesselated (meshed) in another application with better results than in VW. The STL export presents a slider to control the number of polys exported.

The C4D export does not support nurbs unfortunately. However, I usually find the phong settings in C4D do a pretty good job of smoothing once I render. If your imported models still look rough, try tweaking the settings in the phong tag for that object.
