bhorowitz
I just had the tech guys build me 2 profiles for fixtures I will be using in China. They emailed me and they show up in the new fixtures area of Service Select. I downloaded that file and added the fixtures to my favorites file. They show up, but there are no fixture modes shown. If I go to other, they are not shown under their respective manufacturers. I think that I've had this issue in the past and they have had to send me the WAD file. This is true on a Mac and on a PC. The fixtures do not show as available in Vision 2020 at all, even after updating the library. Also true on a Mac and a PC, Also in VW 2020, no matter what fixture type I insert, there is never a GDTF fixture mode available, and selecting other brings up the correct dialog box, but all that is available are generics. I emailed back to the guys who built the profiles but the email was returned as undeliverable. Any suggestions? Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee jcogdell Posted October 28, 2019 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 28, 2019 Hi Bud Please contact tech support regarding the new fixtures. Sorry I can't help you with this issue directly. I can help you with the GDTF fixture mode problem Currently Spotlight cannot generate GDTF files internally. This is why the GDTF mode is not select-able, without downloading the appropriate GDTF from the GDTF-share website and saving it into the GDTF folder. The GDTF folder is located in Vectorworks2020\Plug-Ins\VW_Spotlight\Data\GDTF Once the GDTF is saved there you will be able to select a GDTF mode for your fixture in the OIP. Best practice is to assign the GDTF mode last before exporting the file as an MVR. Also you do not need to assign a GDTF mode if the MVR is for Vision, as GDTF has not yet been implemented in Vision (being worked on by the dev team). If the fixture doesn't have a GDTF available on the website yet you will have to create it yourself (there is a tutorial) or contact the manufacturer and ask them to do so (if they are participating!). Currently we are working to add more GDTF functionality to both Spotlight and Vision, this will be a step by step process. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee klinzey Posted October 28, 2019 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted October 28, 2019 The .wad file is a separate update. Even though the fixture symbols were updated the fixture mode may not have been added. Depending on the fixture it may take more time to create the fixture mode. Which fixture or fixture mode did you request? Vision Service Select users are given priority support for creating new fixture modes, request from other users are completed in the order they are received. Vectorworks olny ships a sampling of the GDTF files. You can download and create GDTF files from https://gdtf-share.com/ Vectorworks will read the fixture footprint information from the GDTF but Vision currently still requires the fixture mode in order to operate. bhorowitz
Understand about the GDTF files. Through Vectorworks Service Select I requested a GTD 1500 GTD Profile and an Acme 600Z. I received a response saying that these are available in the download section. I downloaded the files and pulled them into my favorites files. They are there, but no fixture modes. I also requested 2 fixtures through the Vision page, a GTD 1500 Wash and an Omarte Ares P6. I have not heard anything about these. The point of requesting these fixtures is to do a pre-viz of a show I have coming up in Beijing in about 10 days. I thought that when I imported these fixtures they would show up in both Spotlight and Vision, but apparently I am wrong. In the past, the Vision guys have built some fixtures for me. They would not show up when updating libraries in Vectorworks or Vision, and they had to send me the .wad file. Once I replaced the .wad file, all was OK. If I need fixtures built for use in Spotlight/Vision, am I better off requesting them through the Service Select page or the Vision page? Right now, I have no way to pre-viz using any of these 4 fixtures. I'm not sure which direction to go from here. Thanks, Quote Link to comment
