Point Cloud Referencing

shorter

Question

Given we can reference DWG, and now IFC, and we can reference a PDF or a JPG, would it not make sense to add Point Cloud to that list?

Have the usual task of providing evidence for a planning application to show the proximity of tree to my clients proposed building.

Would be far easier to reference the point cloud in, like a PDF can be referenced, than have to import and then reference.

None but it takes twice as long...and given the point cloud is less invasive than IFC and DWG in terms of classes and resources like a pdf is inert and therefore far easier to manage and would not require layer management when referencing. It behaves like an object which is perfect for direct referencing.

I agree, basically the same thing as with DWG imports.

I think from history, VW was never that dependent from Referencing

like Autocad or Microstation. It had more an "all in one File" logic.

Although Referencing was there.

As Reference options accelerated over the last years, it may be likely that

they will allow Point Cloud Referencing at one point too.
