2019 keeps crashing

Question

Hi and greetings from Finland

My SO is doing studies in gardening and they have assignments to do with VW.

She is getting frustrated, because the program keeps crashing every half an hour.

Software was provided by her school, registration is done etc.

I have done a re-install. Windows is W10 pro, all updates on that too are done.

Laptop is a Dell, with i5 cpu, 8 gigs of ram.

I will attach a file for errors that I found from windows logs. There are tons of these.

Can anyone tell me anything from these?

Regards,

Marko

Good evening. I am sorry to hear of the frustration. It sounds like maybe the laptop does not have a dedicated graphics card, with dedicated graphics memory, which is essential for the software to run.

You can see the system requirements to run Vectorworks 2019 here:

https://www.vectorworks.net/sysreq?version=2019

If the computer DOES have the required graphics card, it may be that the driver for the card needs to be updated, or have its configuration set so that it is always on when Vectorworks is running. You can find more information about graphics drivers here:

And here:

You may be able to improve performance by reducing the software's dependence on the graphics card, as follows:

Tools > Options > Vectorworks Preferences.

Click the Display tab.

Change Navigation Graphics to Good Performance and Compatibility, or even Best Compatibility. This will reduce the smoothness of zooms, but may reduce the crashing.

Good luck!

Thanks for the detailed answer,

The laptop is old, and it probably does not meet all the requirements.

We solved this the easy way and I went and bought a new laptop with a dedicated graphics card. For now, all looks much better.
