Can't See Anything In Workspace After Updating To VW2020

Hi All, 

 

I've recently updated to VW Architect 2020 and I cant see anything I draw in the workspace... I've tried importing models that I've previously made (and are perfectly visible) in VW19 but I cant see anything on the layers set to visible, I can however click and drag across the blank screen and then objects etc. appear highlighted in the Object Info Pallete...

 

I've checked the obvious things like class visibility but everything seems normal, I just cant see anything other than a blank canvass, not even a cursor grid :( 

 

I'm sure it's a simple fix but I cant figure it out, can anyone help?

Are you able to see your drawing if you click on fit to objects or does it zoom out?

Would you be able to send over a copy of this file so that I can investigate the issue.

I'm afraid not, I tried fit to objects and still can't see anything unfortunately. 

 

I've DM'ed you in order to figure out how best to send you the file.

I have this same issue and was wondering what the solution was? It happens on every file I try to open

I've seen visibility problems a couple times with 2020.  If you select an invisible object, especially roof faces like @Simon B was seeing and change an attribute and change it back it suddenly pops to life.  The easiest one for me is turn on drop shadow and turn it off.

 

Especially on roofs faces, I've found it helps to Command-[ ( or Control-[ ) to get to the underlying polygon and then exit, that makes it pop to life.

 

In either case, I've found that if this fix works at all it fixes it forever.  Or at least a long time. 🙂

@michaelk Thank you for your answer! I do not believe it is a visibility thing. Here is a picture of my screen. It is this way on everyfile I open. I tried on a different computer and the file's visibility is correct.

What does the OIP say if you select all?

@michaelk The OIP was blank as that was a brand new vector works file. I have also attached a file that has the same issue on my machine but it works on a different machine.

I just opened it in 2018 and 2020.  Everything was visible.

 

Weird!

 

If the issue is specific to one machine, I think it's time to contact tech support and ask about your machine.

I had the same issue-if you are on a Mac, the newest IOS will do this. Catalina doesn't support the older version I had to switch from 2018 too 2020 and it worked.

@ACopeland I am on windows 10. At first I thought it might be that I had vectorworks on an exfat drive but now I have it on an ntfs drive and no change.

@MCHonaker I don't think the drive is going to matter.  I open files from fat32 drives all the time.

Any chance your graphics card is not playing well with VW?

The only thing I don't see playing is the OpenGL requirement. Is it OpenGL or OpenCL? I have a Radeon R9 380 btw for reference.

I am updating this as I figured out the issue. It ended up being system requirements/graphics card incompatibility. I switched to a gtx 1070 and now everything seems to work!
