make basic tools persistent

Lee Keenan

Question

I wish there was a way to lock the basic tool bar in place. I'm constantly trying to click on the Selection Tool and accidentally hitting the little x on the Basic palette, then I have to go reopen that palette and put it back in place.   If there is already a way to do this please enlighten me.   And it really makes me wonder who is closing the basic palette ever and why?

Another workaround for Icon Clickers like me is to edit the Workspace

and re-arrange the Icons in an order that is suitable for your usage.

So you could put Selection and other often used Tools away from

the palette close button.

My basic Palette docks as a single row at the bottom of the drawing window,

for better reach. Heavily customized by sorting, arranging and additional tools

I often need.

I rarely use "X" key and also often click the Selection Icon.

But mainly I added "X" and Fit View to my 2 side buttons of my mouse.

Yeah I try to use x as much as possible.  But yeah coming out of text editing or in the middle of a lot of cutting and pasting where my left hand is kinda locked down there...  Yeah maybe rearranging basic so that the a row of things I hardly use are up at the top by the close button....

More the reason why we need persistent spell checking. To pick up odd "xx" inserted into notes.

Unless one uses "xx" as placeholder for yet to be determined numeric values in notes and other texts (as some of my clients do). 😁

My workaround is to hit the ESC key twice to get out of text windows, commands, selections etc. before using the X-shortcut. After a while that becomes muscle memory too. (works the same in some other programs that I use).
