Jason Turley
When editing a group is it possible to snap to other objects on different layers? One of the Architects at my place swears it is possible. I'm not convinced. Jason... Quote Link to comment
Delmer
Have your preferences set to show other objects while in groups and layer options set to show snap or show snap modify others. Quote Link to comment
Jason Turley
Yes but it still doesn't seem to snap between objects on different layers. I'm not sure if it's a feature of vectorworks or if it is a bug in the system. Quote Link to comment
Delmer
You're right. If the architect in yur office remembers how let us know. Quote Link to comment
jan15
You can snap to objects on other layers, except as follows: 1. if the other layer is at a different scale; 2. if Layer Options is set to prevent it; or 3. while editing a group. That part about the group editing has always been true. I think of a group as a kind of un-named sub-layer, and the idea seems to be that you can only snap through one level of layering. Similarly, while editing a sub-group of one group, you can't snap to objects in other groups on the same layer. Sometimes it's useful, but sometimes it's a pain. To work around the painful times, I often temporarily copy things onto the current layer (via the excellent "Paste in Place" command).
