overhead elements as dashed lines?

How does vectorworks show overhead elements as dashed lines? Like these trellis components?

There are several ways you can do this so it depends on your drawing set up.

 

Is this a 3d model?, How is the trellis work modelled/drawn?

Is the trellis work on it's own class and are it's attributes defined by-class? If so you might be able to use vp class overrides so that only in this viewport the trellis work linetype can be overridden to a dashed style. I think this is the simplest way.

The alternatives are more complicated and often require more editing if the design changes.

Hmmm...The lines don't change to dashed.

 

Yes, and it's a 3-D model. The trellis is on its own subclass from the main roof class. Yes, the attributes are defined by class.

It is probably because the way your trellis members are modelled. Are they extrudes? How have you modelled them?

If so then their 3d lines are not editable in a 2d top plan view.

 

If they are done with the framing member tool then this gives you more control of the 2d representation.

You could create an auto hybrid object. That way you can control the appearance in 2D plan and model separately. Have a look at "Creating Objects\3D Modeling\Creating Auto Hybrid Objects" in the help documentation.

If you try to alter the shape of a plug in object such as the Framing Member Tool to create the rounded ends (by subtracting or adding a solid), the plug in object then becomes generic solid and you lose the ability to change certain attributes through the OIP (Object Info Palette) as well as controlling the 2D plan look.
