Locking something and not have it highlighted

Recommended Posts

After I lock something how can I not see it highlighted? When my mouse goes over it, it still kind of highlights it even though I locked it in place.

Locking an item will not give you the option to turn off highlighting for that object. Although, there are a couple of ways to keep objects from being highlighted in Vectorworks. You can turn off highlighting for all objects in the Vectorworks Preferences Dialog Box under Tools>Options>Vectorworks Preferences... Select the Interactive tab and deselect the Selection highlighting option. The other and perhaps more useful way to keep from highlighting objects is to place them on a separate Design Layer and change the Layer Options to Show Others or Gray Others.

I'd like to add to @SMannVW and state that you could use the Interactive Appearance Settings button in the Interactive tab to change the highlighting of locked objects.

In the Interactive Appearance Settings dialog, there are two options you may want to modify:

  • Object Highlighting - Locked
  • Object Highlighting - Pre-Selection - Locked

If you change both of their Opacity sliders to 0, objects will not highlight ever when they are locked. If you would like to keep the locked objects highlighted when selected, only change the second option.
