Interior Elevation Marker line

Have set up Interior Elevations, but they run through 3d objects. Have gone back to design layer to adjust section line.

Usually, it's an easy operation to add vertices to the section line marker and make a staggered section line. Only try as I may, it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas?!

 

If I click on the section line once (on design layer) I get blue handles. Twice, I get reshape tool (add vertex mode and move 'reshape handles') neither of which seem to do anything, as no 'reshape handles' are present...?

 

It would be great to have some kind of a tool whereby if the line runs through 3d objects they get hidden
