Popular Post digitalcarbon Posted February 5, 2019 Popular Post Share Posted February 5, 2019 Below shows me working 2 cad systems at once...Mechanical CAD (Onshape) on the left & Architectural (VW) on the right...doing a facility all in MCAD is tedious & doing all fabrication drawings in Architectural CAD is tedious...its like a motorcycle vs a car...which is better? It depends...at-any-rate, having the ability to blend & tweak each design WITHOUT having to send my concerns to a fabricator who makes the drawings is saving days worth of back and forth...I can do it in minutes...not to mention being able to fit a 60 acre site on the UTM surveyors grid & work with a terrain model...which cannot be done in MCAD...again shaving time off the back & forth... Onshape is the motorcycle...its good for doing one thing. VW is the mini van...it carries the whole project. We don't want VW to be the "car/boat'. That is that car that can also drive into the water and be a boat...it sucks as a car and its terrible as a boat...and only useful for impressing the "babes" and I doubt even that. 5 Quote Link to comment

Onshape makes shop drawings really fast...but thats it...no customization, no presentation views...its for the guys in the shop..that's it... And that is the way it should be...its a child of the main project system (VW) then export parasolids for assembly in VW or the Minivan This symbiotic relationship is working well...no need for VW to make a custom cabinet tool...make custom cabinets in a separate VW file (direct modeling) and ref in to main VW file OR make the custom cabs in Onshape for real fabrication drawings...
