Make data visualization work with class overriding

VvierA

Question

Hi there,

I really like the data visualization feature.

The problem is, that it is not possible to combine data visualization with overriding class attributes in a viewport.

But this is exactly what I would need most of the time: visualization of data in a drawing that is apart from that graphically defined via class attributes.

The solution would be so easy: data visualization should simply override the attributes of the specific classes that are affected and for the rest the settings for the class attributes of the viewport should be valid.

What do you think?

Wish delivered in 2020!  If a particular visualization scheme does not apply to an object, "Draw all other objects: Normally" will now fall back to whatever the viewport wants, class overrides included.

@Rick Berge I'm trying to do this in VW2025 but am not sure where to find "Draw all other objects: Normally".

Is it the button that's now called "show"?

If so, selecting this does not seem to allow the "other objects" to fall back to the viewport's class over-rides. At least in my case, where I want to use data vis to change the texture of everything in a certain layer, while having things in all other layers fall back to the viewport's class over-ride settings.

"Show" is what you are looking for.  Older versions had a "draw all other objects grayed" checkbox, and that's now done with the "Show" and "Gray" radio buttons. "Hide" means use the new Object Visibility feature to hide others instead of drawing them.

If an object isn't changed by datavis we try to use the original appearance, and same is true for datavis with a 'retain' option.  We currently have two bugs:

  • Class overrides of attributes. For objects affected by a datavis and using a 'retain' option, we didn't look for the class override. There is a fix in VW2025 update 4.
  • Class overrides of textures. We aren't looking for class override textures at all; not for 'show-normal' objects and not for 'retain' either.  Bug is unfixed.
