Phil hunt
I have been offered a job that’s been modelled and rendered in c4d I have v2017 can I bring the model in from a cd4 file I can see I can bring in the textures but will vw import the graphic files that have been placed as decals on the cd4 model......don’t want to turn the job down but will it mean re-modelling the job inside vw and applying the c4d textures from the file the client is sending over......any help or advice will be appreciated. Thanks Quote Link to comment
EAlexander
You can't bring the native .C4d file into VW. You can export it as .3ds or OBJ from Cinema and bring the geometry in that way, but they will be meshes: very heavy and clunky. I would do that in smaller chunks and use them as templates to rebuild in VW, but it won't be fun, and you'd need access to Cinema. The workflow is not designed to flow that way. Wish I had better news for you. Quote Link to comment
Phil hunt
Thanks......looks like it’s a non starter then....I think the client needs to get the amendments done inside C4D...oh well never mind....thanks again Quote Link to comment
zoomer
I am not sure about what you have to do with the design exactly. If you don't need to edit things but just add your stuff to it, you could export a DXF from C4D and "reference" that to VW. And add your designs. You can "import C4D materials" from the C4D file. So you can use all their Materials and add only necessary new ones. Imported materials keep all C4D complexity that VW can't handle and you can even overwrite them for VW usage. But when again in C4D they will behave exactly same as before. If you need to really work with their data, you need to bring it into VW. There is no way to bring it in as Solids. In the best case you will get Meshes, in the worst case (DXF) just separate unconnected 3D Faces. Unfortunately VW has no DAE or FBX Import option. 3DS may work to keep Meshes. Quote Link to comment
