Peter Telleman
Hi, I'm trying to make a 3D model like the attachment, my thought was to make a block and then cut it along lines, but I can't seem to find the correct way to do that. Am I at least thinking along the right lines, or is there an easier, proper way? thank, Peter Quote Link to comment
cberg
screen recording.mov How about using the defom tool? See attached. 3 Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee PVA - Admin Posted January 18, 2019 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted January 18, 2019 Deform tool would work, Split tool may also be what you're looking for from an isometric view: 2 Quote Link to comment
Peter Telleman
Thanks the both of you, I’ll try both ways later today. I can both will actually work. Quote Link to comment
Kevin McAllister
I think this is one of the few instances I would use the Multiple Extrude command. It would be the quickest. In Top/Plan draw your base triangle and place a 2d loci at the elevated corner. Select both objects and choose Multiple Extrude from the Model menu. Set the desired height in the dialog that opens. Peter Telleman
thanks everybody, in the end the deform method worked easiest for me, but i enjoyed getting to experiment with the other methods as well. Will definitely be using these in the future. Peter Quote Link to comment

Peter Telleman
as a follow up question, I have drawn a pole, now i want to move the top of the pole, but leave the bottom where it is. Is there a command to do this?? Quote Link to comment
Bas Vellekoop
I tried to convert a extruded circle to a subdivion object and then move the top. But VW can not convert it to a subdivision unfortunately. A: A multiple extrude can do what you ask, but is 'heavy' object in VW. It can slow down your file. B: Otherwise you could: draw te circles (circle tool or shortcut '6') place them on the correct height (ctrl + alt + M) convert them to nurbs curves (ctrl + alt + n) loft them in the first mode (3d modeling toolset) create planar caps (3d power pack) stitch and trim surfaces (3d power pack) C : The deform tool maybe, but i didnt get it to work. I got it too bend, but it did not shear in my quick test. Attached a simple file with some tests multiple extrude.vwx Edited January 22, 2019 by Bas Vellekoop Quote Link to comment
Peter Telleman
basically what I'm looking for is to select two points, and that it then draws my cylinder from the first to the second point. Or draw a cylinder (I know the height), and then have the top center and the bottom center go to my points of choice. Quote Link to comment
Bas Vellekoop
As far as i know this is not possible. But would be a great addition to VW if possible Quote Link to comment
twk
After extruding a circle, you can user-adjust position of top or bottom end of cylinder by activating the "ReShape" Tool command. (highlighted tool in screenshot below) 1 Quote Link to comment
RussU
What about extrude along path. Draw a line in 3d, then draw the cirlce to the right diameter, and go Model -> Extrude along path. Double click and edit path to adjust start/end points later. EaP1.vwx Edited January 22, 2019 by RussU 1 Quote Link to comment

Peter Telleman
extrude along path sounds promising, I have some issues though. I draw the poly line, then I draw the circle, but I can't select extrude along path. I've never used this, so I'm probably doing something simple wrong. Peter Telleman
That did the trick! Thanks a million, what a great command! Quote Link to comment
RussU
Stick with it. After a bit of time, you'll find the whole process slicker in VW that Acad. There's some really handy videos on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/user/vectorworks And @Jim Wilson has done some great ones in the service select portal too. @Peter Telleman 1 Quote Link to comment
