Popular Post Bas Vellekoop
Almost everything gets modeled in 3d these days. Associative Dimensioning is only possible with 2d geometry in Vectorworks. Is wish it was possible on 3d geometry as well. The following tools should be able to recognize 3d geometry in models and work associative on sheet layers and design layers: - Unconstrained Linear Dimensioning - Constrained Linear Dimensioning - Dual Dimensioning - Radial Dimensioning - Marking Object Centers - Angular Dimensioning - Arc Length Dimensioning Vectorworks should be able to recognize radial dimensions and curves on shelled nurbs surfaces and perfect round extruded polygons. Attached I have a file I wish VW could dimension associative and would be able to recognize al the different dimensions. Pleas pitch in for enhancements on this wish. 0 RussU
I want to add my voice to this request as well. I had to rush out some updated drawings, and ended up deleting all the dimensions from that issue, as going through them and tweaking them all would have taken hours. Now they're issued and the client is happy-ish, I need to go through dozens of these drawings tweaking them, and I know that a couple might slip through the net. While I think it might be difficult from a software engineering pov, I don't mind having 3D Loci in the model which I can "lock-on" to. this would be a major boost. 1 Quote Link to comment
0 Stephanie v Luijk
Yes! This would be a game changer in terms of modelling and drawing efficiency. The software and industry is shifting to a "3D-first" mindset, modelling in 3D and generating working drawings from that. It seems crazy that associative dimensions still only work on 2D objects. It would be AMAZING if this could be part of the upcoming service packs! 2 Quote Link to comment

0 SeanOSkea
Yes! Its astonishing that this hasn't been addressed. I keep coming back to the forums because I just assume I'm doing something wrong. The Radial dim tool or the angle tool can't snap to edges in a viewport? Really? Linear dims can so why not others? Quote Link to comment
0 Markvl
This would be so fantastic. This is one thing I liked about Revit Families. Quote Link to comment
0 Garrett Burleson
bump. cue up Revit. Also, temporary dimensions would be a game changer. 1 Quote Link to comment
Question
Bas Vellekoop
Almost everything gets modeled in 3d these days.
Associative Dimensioning is only possible with 2d geometry in Vectorworks.
Is wish it was possible on 3d geometry as well.
The following tools should be able to recognize 3d geometry in models and work associative on sheet layers and design layers:
- Unconstrained Linear Dimensioning
- Constrained Linear Dimensioning
- Dual Dimensioning
- Radial Dimensioning
- Marking Object Centers
- Angular Dimensioning
- Arc Length Dimensioning
Vectorworks should be able to recognize radial dimensions and curves on shelled nurbs surfaces and perfect round extruded polygons.
Attached I have a file I wish VW could dimension associative and would be able to recognize al the different dimensions.
Pleas pitch in for enhancements on this wish.
