mjm
Ok; I just got done trying the blur portion of the Plastic reflectivity shader, danged if I can see a difference. What do I not understand? BLUR Thought experiment.vwx Quote Link to comment
Andy Broomell
It won't do anything unless Blurriness is turned on in your render style. In the case of Custom Renderworks which you're using, click the "Background Render Settings" button in the viewport's OIP and check the Blurriness checkbox: 2 Quote Link to comment

Had a huge blind spot around this but knew I was missing something. Quote Link to comment

Popular Post Andy Broomell
No problem. Note also that blurriness adds render time, which is why there's a checkbox to be able to quickly turn it off when it's not important, and turn it back on for final renderings (or you can create your own Render Styles to take control of this). And while there's a Blurriness "quality" setting, in my experience this doesn't really affect surface blurriness, only translucency blurriness. Instead, the quality/smoothness of the blur effect is controlled by the Anti-Aliasing quality level. Of course higher quality takes longer, but it's also smoother. 🙂 5 Quote Link to comment

I hadn't worked with the blurriness option before that test file. Hugely informative. I used the attached pic as a IRL goal to approach. As yet I have not dug in along the lines @Andy Broomell suggested above. Quote Link to comment
