Easy way to delete duplicate elements?

Recommended Posts

DH, first make sure you are in LAYER>ACTIVE ONLY mode to make sure what you are seeing is not on two separate layers. If it is actually a duplicate (or duplicates) in the same layer they were (probably) created by whoever sent you the file, and if so, you might have them try again. To directly answer your question: unless the duplicates are on their own layer (or in their own class) there is no way the I know of to delete them except one-by-one (ahrrrg!).

After importing a dwg file, I find that almost every element is duplicated, i.e. there are two of everything on top of each other. Is there any way to select and delete these duplicates? Thanks for any ideas.

If you have access to AutoCAD, go back there and 'Overkill' your file. That will get rid of the duplicates...literally type in 'overkill' leave the defaults checked and let it do its thing...If you don't have ACad, good luck and I hope you have health insurance for that RSI you'll be getting by going through manually cleaning the drawing.
