lawrence kline Posted January 13, 2005 Share Posted January 13, 2005 running VW10 on Mac OSX.3; am starting to have problems with memory size and get the VW message to "increase partition size" but the instructions off the OSX help site don't work! - won't let me drag the slider and will not let me reset "preferred size" under "get info" anybody solved this problem? thanks! Travis Posted January 13, 2005 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Lawrence, OSX sets partition sizes dynamically, meaning as each application "needs" it. The preferred size is set by the programmer, not the user. If VW is asking for more memory, you likely need to shut down other programs or add more physical memory. I run 1.5gb currently, but most in our office have 768mb. Good luck. Quote Link to comment
matto Posted January 13, 2005 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Our office runs osX.3 and vectorworks 11 on machines running 256mb- 512mb generally, with few issues. In mac os x memory warnings can be a sign that the maintaince scripts of the mac's unixy core are not running regularly. Couple of things had help this - leave your computers on over night at least on weekdays. - or resert the scripts to run durring what would be the office lunch time. (not that you tend to notice them running in the background) If you search versiontracker for "crontab" you should find a utility for changing the timing. or you can search macosxhints.com or www.oreillynet.com and get your hands dirty in terminal.
