I agree - but would rather have dynamic output - much like the mirror tool and how it shows you what it is going to do before committing

Doesn't it already have dynamic output? I use its preview function all the time. I wouldn't change how it works, just make it have a memory so that you can adjust it later.

You could try the repetitive unit tool. It allows you to reshape the path retrospectively.

That's a nice tool!  I found it in the workspace editor - but which tool set is it in normally?

I have never come across it before!   I am going to give it a try for creating seating layouts - could be useful.

Also - the option to use "Symbol Pitch" - do you know how that works?  I assume it set per symbol.  If so - how do I modify it?

Thanks!

(I feel like Arthur Negus - sorry non U.K. readers - Negus was a celebrated antiques expert, OBE and British television personality and antiques expert, specialising in furniture) Source https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Negus

Its been around for a while. Here's 2016

http://app-help.vectorworks.net/2016/eng/index.htm#t=VW2016_Guide%2FDetails1%2FCreating_Repetitive_Unit_Details.htm&rhsearch=Repetitive unit&rhhlterm=Repetitive unit&rhsyns=

Not sure how much earlier this tool goes back. (Others may know) Suffice to say VW doesn't change much.

Pretty much duplicated/replaced by line type. Nevertheless useful and good to have a play with. May provide you with a very useful/flexible way to produce your seating.

Have fun.

(Possibly see you on 2nd)

It appears the tool is restricted to the Architect product.

Yes - Designer, Architect and Landmark. Not Fundamentals, Spotlight, Braceworks☹️(According to the feature matrix)

Would be interesting to sit-in on the product meetings and see the criteria used to choose how the various features are distributed within the VW Products.

I recall someone suggesting a 'pay per feature' perhaps be adopted to strengthen individual products with the missing features if required by the user. However, VW has a knack of providing similar functions in other ways and usually there's a work around.

Not sure how to place a formal 'feature request here on the Forum but, I too am looking for something to help solve this common segmented barricade fencing task... Seems like there should be some VW tool or constraint that will let me set whole number integers for snapping and/or drawing polylines... Like for making fence lines out of 8ft barricade segments... Any suggestions? I’ve tried the ‘Fence’ tool, 'Repetitive Unit' tool, 'Duplicate along path’ command, and they’re workarounds at best. Seems like the 'Snap to Distance' constraint would be a good starting place but I can’t get it to predictively snap out into space (only snap to distance along preexisting objects).

The ideal would be some some sort of cross between the Repetitive Unit tool and the Rope and Stanchion tool. Or even just adding functionality to the R&S tool might do it if there was a way to change the “Ideal Spacing” to “Fixed” spacing.

My firm does a lot of crowd control and attendee holding pens/pedestrian traffic management layouts and we frequently need to update / change layouts based on client requests and/or barricade stock sizes availability from vendors. A tool that would allow you to build segmented fence lines with adjustable segment lengths (ideally based on parametric symbols) and provide a segment or symbol count in the same way the R&S tool does would be a dream (if only a sad one).
