Does anyone know of a way to stop a render which is in progress without quitting the program?

-using Spotlight 2018 on a Mac.

If its during the geometry phase or when using any rendering mode that is still single core, no. If its a Renderworks mode and its actually rendering then you should be able to stop it using Command . (or CTRL . on Windows) (that's a period).

Pressing esc also stops a RW rendering. OpenGL renderings can't be stopped yet.

Honestly I didn't even know about cmd . 😄

Just to say that pressing 'esc' often does NOT deliver the stop render command in anything resembling timeliness.

This is the real issue. Esc-esc DOES indeed trigger the stop of the render, it's just that it does not stop in a timely manner, so much so that many users think they haven't told it to stop at all. The notification in the bottom right may or may not appear based on what phase of rendering they are in, or not show a notification til the rendering has actually stopped under heavy loads.

This is in as a wishlist item, but I suspect it may need to wait until we are all or nearly fully multicore in order to implement it.

A little update on the issue. So, in terms of Renderworks, the behavior for the Esc key hasn't changed. However, apparently because of OS updates, Renderworks doesn't know the key is pressed now. This issue will be solved in the next version, sorry for the inconvenience.
