Stephen M.
Does anyone know of a way to stop a render which is in progress without quitting the program? -using Spotlight 2018 on a Mac. Quote Link to comment

If its during the geometry phase or when using any rendering mode that is still single core, no. If its a Renderworks mode and its actually rendering then you should be able to stop it using Command . (or CTRL . on Windows) (that's a period). Kevin Quote Link to comment
Stephen M.
Thanks for the info Kevin. That must be a hidden command because I don't see it on a Keyboard Shortcuts list. Quote Link to comment
Guest Selin
Pressing esc also stops a RW rendering. OpenGL renderings can't be stopped yet. Honestly I didn't even know about cmd . 😄 Quote Link to comment

This is the real issue. Esc-esc DOES indeed trigger the stop of the render, it's just that it does not stop in a timely manner, so much so that many users think they haven't told it to stop at all. The notification in the bottom right may or may not appear based on what phase of rendering they are in, or not show a notification til the rendering has actually stopped under heavy loads. This is in as a wishlist item, but I suspect it may need to wait until we are all or nearly fully multicore in order to implement it. 1 Quote Link to comment
mjm
Yes, this appears to be it indeed. Thanks Jim. Quote Link to comment
MikeB
I've found that switching to the OpenGL or Wireframe mode during the rending process will stop the rending and switch to that mode. the esc key no longer seems to stop the current rendering in VW2019 1 Quote Link to comment
CAIT
Figured it out with Tech Support's help. You have to make sure that "Unified View" is turned on. As long as it is turned on, you can switch it to wireframe mid-render and it switches. 1 Quote Link to comment
Ian M.
@MikeB Thanks for the tip on how to get out of a Renderworks rendering. The "command ." and "esc" don't produce any noticeable reaction, but the switch to OpenGL worked very nicely. Quote Link to comment
Guest Selin
A little update on the issue. So, in terms of Renderworks, the behavior for the Esc key hasn't changed. However, apparently because of OS updates, Renderworks doesn't know the key is pressed now. This issue will be solved in the next version, sorry for the inconvenience. Quote Link to comment

Lunar Waneshaft
Any updates? Is this just a Hidden Line issue? Quote Link to comment
Stephen M.
Mark, I brought this up when using a version in 2018/2019 and I never upgraded to 2021 so I can't say for sure if it was solved. Quote Link to comment
