Projecting onto a curve with no image correction

Recommended Posts

Hi

Can any one recommend the best way of mocking up what a projector projecting onto a curve would look like?

Mad idea that has been sold into the client.  No money to do blended projection etc / mapping so I am keen to show them how it would look.

I don't believe texture mapping would work as in real life the image is coming from one source?

Any suggestions much appreciated.  I am on 2018 with Designer / Renderworks.

Thanks,

Andrew

Quick solution would be to create a gobo and project that onto a curved surface using a lighting instrument. Not the most elegant approach but it will work.

Exactly how I would solve the problem

I have been asking for this for years...

There absolutely should be a simple way to do this and choose projector type, output, lens etc etc and it function in the same way the screen tools do. Using the gobo & light workaround really isn't a great solution. Maybe ok if you have to do this once but a nightmare when you have multiple projectors that need to project onto a stage, set, musicians etc and show what it is actually going to look like with projection.

Here! Here!

Almost all my shows use projection and a lot of them don't just use screens.

Please make that enhancement, VW!

Basically, we just need a suitable projector “instrument” that would allow for the basic functionality of a projector; lens, zoom calculations, orientation, etc. Whether that becomes part of the plug-in tool or, more likely, a separate device probably doesn’t matter.
