BJRobinson
Can anyone point me to a video that explains how to draw retaining walls stepping up a sloping site with returns that taper up from the base. Similar to the attached plan. Quote Link to comment
zoomer
Hmmh, the way VW DTM and modifiers work and what options are there, I think I would prefer to cut out the whole area with a large single Modifier - to be free to Model all Walls, Stairs, Walkways and Ground Fills from scratch like it would be standard Architecture or a Building. But I assume you would like to have existing and proposed Volums for calculations with out doing heavy math in tables ..... If VW Modifiers required, I think I would fill each island with Polygons by bucket, apply an inset of 0,5 cm for each (that they don't touch). This should work for easy for al level Objects, work ok for all (simple) sloped areas, while the ground filled areas may require to convert them to 3D Polys or use of stake objects to form a complex, random sloped nature feeling. 1 Quote Link to comment

Thanks zoomer. I'm relatively new to VW. So I'll have to read through your reply a few times to understand it all. Quote Link to comment
rowbear97
BJRobinson, What I have found is that you can use contours with slopes at the top and bottom of walls to get the desired effect. If you want to have the wall slope you should then take you wall tool and modify the top by moving the grips. Quote Link to comment

If you are not very familiar with VW DTM I'ld recommend the wonderful VW Video get started series about VW Landmark on youtube. Which explain all things like the different terrain modifiers. Also I misunderstood the Walls as I thought they would be level to create terraces. But I think there was an option to make their bottom follow a terrain and you can manipulate and add their peaks on top and bottom manually. Quote Link to comment
